The difference between well known AutoCAD and progeCAD

What is the main difference between AutoCAD and progeCAD?

Well, by looking at them you won’t notice any significant difference of these two design software. A careful look into the upper left corner is required in order to distinguish them by the A and P icon. AutoCAD and progeCAD are both using DWG as their native format and they are completely compatible, AutoCAD to progeCAD and vice versa. Most AutoCAD commands can be used in the same way in progeCAD, icons and ribbon menu are practically the same, functionality and operating mode are almost the same. What is the difference then? As progeCAD is an alternative to AutoCAD, it offers different licensing options. Unlike AutoCAD (2D and 3D) and AutoCAD LT (2D) subscriptions, progeCAD is offering one unique 2D/3D software with perpetual licenses. Pricing was also a matter to Italian-Swiss manufacturer, so progeCAD perpetual licenses have the lowest price at all, on the whole market.

Many users find that less expensive or mid-range CAD software still has all of the features their companies would use. progeCAD 2D/3D Professional is a reliable and fully legal alternative to AutoCAD® or AutoCAD LT® with AutoCAD “look and feel”, perpetual license (once-off) and much lower price. Mission of progeCAD is not to be better than AutoCAD, but to offer customers a choice, better value for money, additional functionalities, better compatibility and different licensing options from stand alone to corporate. Here in CADglobal, we want to empower our valued customers and give them choice.

AutoCAD is available only as a subscription (soon only as a single user) progeCAD license is not limited by time and has single, network and corporate volume licenses

AutoCAD comes only as an subscription in duration of one and three years. AutoCAD subscription is enabling use of newest software version (currently AutoCAD 2022) and three versions in the back. Whole time during the subscription, user has technical support on disposal and if new version is released during the subscription period, user has right to switch to new AutoCAD version at no cost, of course. Price of AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT subscription is roughly the same as they were with the AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT perpetual license, when you consider that for this mentioned above, you needed then to pay for extra annual subscription and maintenance. When you break down this over years, costs are very similar. Quarterly subscriptions were retired, so only annual projection can be made with this cost. Sure that projects could be calculated with lower risk with quarterly subscriptions that with these one or three year, but again it’s a lot better than to pay £10k and then if project dies you are stuck with useless £10k perpetual license.

progeCAD, as the most European software manufacturers, is still keeping perpetual licenses. There is no mention that this practice will change anytime soon. “Old school” software licensing has it’s benefits too, as there is no need for big annual or periodical re-investment like it is with a subscription. When we take into consideration progeCAD’s price, we see that progeCAD perpetual license is significantly cheaper than cheapest AutoCAD LT annual subscription. Low progeCAD’s price is setting it into a spotlight, and performance is keeping it there.

Upgrading AutoCAD licenses

Autodesk stopped selling standalone perpetual licenses of their desktop software. Users of older AutoCAD licenses can upgrade them to progeCAD with a discount or buy a AutoCAD annual subscription.
